Welcome The Spirit

Meditation

When meditation is mentioned to people most react by saying they can't meditate. If you can daydream you can meditate. Meditation is a form of relaxation where you are still alert but are still also aware of the background noises, over time you may even be able to tune these out too. Meditation is an altered state of consciousness and most of us go into this state at least once a day without always realising it. For example when driving, our unconscious mind takes over and our conscious mind drifts, we then find we can't remember how we got from A to B. You may go into this state when washing up, ironing or watching telly etc.

For some people it may take time and practice to be able to truly relax into meditation, we spend to much time rushing around so our minds find it hard to slow down too, because we spend so much time rushing around we tend to live life stressed and agitated, so its the perfect excuse to relax. The mind is always thinking, it's learning how to slow these thoughts down enough to concentrate on you and the relaxation. Meditation brings healing and peace to the mind, body and soul.

Meditation is very important when connecting in with your higher/ inner self and the spirit world. Because our minds are always active we may miss the answers to our problems that our inner selves and spirit world try to give us. This is also when we may feel the spirit world around us more. Meditation is perfectly safe and you are in control at all times, you can return from meditation whenever you wish, just as you can when daydreaming. It's only when developing mediumship that you may find yourself going in deeper to allow for your Guides to come closer. This is why it's best to develop within groups where you can be watched over by another medium.

In our day to day lives we are in the Beta state of consciousness because we need to process so much information around us. When we meditate we enter the Alpha state of consciousness, which is when our brain waves slow down and we become aware of subtle sensations we weren't aware of in the Beta state. To work as a psychic or medium you need to be able to enter the Alpha state to be aware of the subtle messages and awareness we all have. After years of practice this state should be easy to slip into within a matter of minutes; it is an essential element of successful mediumship.

 How to prepare for meditation

Find somewhere quiet where you won't be disturbed (although you can meditate anywhere if you wish; the woods, countryside, bus stop, bath etc). Make sure a phone or the door bell won't disturb you.

Set the lighting to how you want it, if you use candles make sure they are safe and won't cause a fire. Burn insence sticks or aromatheraoy oils.

Put on soft music, self meditation music, whatever you feel drawn to; music helps you to ignore background noise and helps you concentate on the beat, to stop your mind wandering.

Have a drink of water ready, you may feel thirsty when you return from meditation.

Sit on a straight backed chair that's quite comfortable. If you lay down on a bed you will proably fall asleep, although you can lay on the floor which is a hard surface so hopefully you won't be that comfortable that you will fall asleep.

Place your feet firmly on the floor and place your hands on your legs, palms up or down.

Take three deep breaths in through your nose out through your mouth. Feel your body and shoulders relax with each breath. Preparing you for total relaxation.

Ground yourself through visualisation of tree roots coming out of the floor around your toes, feet and ankles, pulling them firmly to the ground. If you can't visualise this, imagine instead that you have placed your feet into quick drying concrete and they are anchored firmly to the ground.

Visualise yourself surrounded by a brilliant white light all around your body and also within your body. This is your protection as you sit in relaxation. Say a prayer in your mind also for protection.

Listen to the music, feel in tune with the music, imagine your body becoming heavier and heavier. Your spirit within is becoming lighter and lighter until you feel your floating away from your physical body as light as a feather.

Visualise whereever you feel more comfortable, the beach, mountains, forests etc and imagine travelling there spiritually, finding a place to sit to relax.

Spend as long as you wish there, at least until you feel refreshed, mind and spirit. There is no rush to return, take your time.

As you leave your special place if you sensed, saw or heard your loved ones or Guides with you, thank them for coming and ask them for their protection now and forever.

Feel the heaviness of your body again and the seat you are sitting in. When you open your eyes, just sit for a moment, then wriggle your fingers and toes. Have a sip of water. Get up slowly and go and make a cuppa, returning to the physical world (remember to put out any candles).
